Abstract

There is a policy and law in Bangladesh but the implementation is negligible. We know that women are the most disadvantaged class and need social justice. Without social justice no policy and law will work. Textbooks are the major media to create social justice for the disadvantaged and making them aware about right and wrong. National Policy for the Advancement of Women (NPAW) framework of CEDAW and as follow up of Beijing Conference on women, the policy has developed to eliminate all forms of discrimination against women by empowering them, so that they become equal partners in development. . In Bangladesh, there are a considerable gap in designing the curriculum to familiarize the stakeholders, especially the students, teachers, community, family and others. The adolescent children are suffering from knowledge gap, having a narrow understanding on gender. Such limitations are continuing to the already existing gender discrimination practices against female in the society. It has also been revealed (National Curriculum Textbook Board, NCTB) , Madrasah and Bangladesh Open University that the example cited in the textbooks are presenting males as a strong and involved in public spheres and females are dependent and engaged in the private spheres.. However there is a lack of systematic study to identify these gender gaps in the curriculum, especially in the secondary education.
